Ole Lukoie
ITEM #: 67684
Ole Lukøje—whose name roughly translates to “Ole Shut-Eye”—is Hans Christian Andersen’s magical bedtime storyteller who visits children at night and brings dreams beneath his umbrella. Ole Lukoie is seated on a crescent moon beneath the magical umbrella central to his tale. The moon glitters with gold and is covered in tiny golden stars, while the underside of the umbrella reveals its own night sky—a dreamy moonlight blue and lavender interior scattered with stars. Brilliant red, turquoise and gold glitter cover the umbrella’s exterior, contrasting with Ole’s richly detailed burgundy costume and striped stockings. This authorized 5-inch piece is mouth blown and hand painted in Poland and presented in a signature collector box with blue satin interior.
MATERIAL: Glass, Paint, Glitter
INCLUDES: 1 Handcrafted, Glass Christmas Ornament
Give Ole Lukoie a place where you can see both above and beneath his oversized umbrella. His 5-inch storybook silhouette is especially interesting among collectible European glass or literary ornaments, where the crescent moon, star-filled umbrella and story behind the character can all be appreciated.
There are two night skies hidden in this ornament. Ole’s glittering crescent moon is covered with tiny gold stars, while overhead, the umbrella opens to reveal stars against dreamy shades of moonlight blue and lavender. Turn it slightly and those wonderful details suddenly come into view.
The jewel-toned red, turquoise, burgundy and gold exterior gives Ole plenty of presence among traditional Christmas colors, but the moonlight blue and lavender beneath the umbrella bring in a softer nighttime palette. Give the ornament a little open space so the crescent shape and umbrella interior remain visible.
